19 Nov Advent: A Weekly Devotional
Advent is the first season of the Christian year, a time of anticipation and joy in which we slow down to remember God’s coming—his advent—in Jesus Christ. When much of our world speeds up in anticipation of the year’s end, the path of Advent calls us instead to ponder the mystery of Jesus’s birth, the true light of God come to a darkened world.
After trialling a devotional resource in 2020, we’ve now prepared a new print version that you can keep to use year upon year. Designed to help churches, small groups, households, and individuals enter into the season of Advent, this is the first card set for Keeping Sacred Time, a new series of devotional resources for the Christian year. We’ll let you know about further sets as we venture into 2022.
These beautiful cards lead you through the four weeks of Advent, culminating in the celebration of Christmas Day. For each week, there is a Scripture reading, a reflection, a question to ponder together, and a collect (a short, written prayer). The sets include devotional cards for Advent Weeks 1-4, a devotional card for Christmas Day, along with descriptions of the Advent season and some suggestions of how to use this resource.
As a reader of Common Ground, you can find a sample of the card for Advent 1 below. To enjoy the full resource, head over to the store to order a printed set. You can also sign up to receive a digital version to your inbox.
We hope you’ll join us at the beginning of this new Christian year, as we lean into keeping sacred time together.
